A: A check of past infection status is necessary to plan effective treatment. If an infection is detected before exposure, this allows our specialists to plan the best course of treatment.
If no infection is detected before the exposure, repeat tests will be required. For HIV, tests should be repeated at 4 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months; for syphilis, tests should be repeated at 6 weeks and 6 months; and for Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B, tests should be repeated at 6 months.
A: Because HPV testing requires the identification of each specific strain, it is more expensive and involves more steps than general STD testing.
HPV has many strains. When infected with strains 6 and 11, it can cause genital warts that resemble cauliflowers, which are typically diagnosed visually. This is unlike other STDs, which usually have similar symptoms and cannot be diagnosed with the naked eye, making a blood test necessary for a thorough diagnosis.
Some strains also increase the risk of cancer. Therefore, HPV testing remains important, especially for those at risk. However, HPV can be prevented with a vaccine.
For all these reasons, HPV is often separated from STD packages. However, it is still a necessary test for those at risk, follow-up cases, and for those who want to check for their own reassurance and peace of mind.

A: It is essential to complete the full course of PEP even if your HIV test result is negative. This is because there is a window period during which the virus may not be detectable. Completing the full dose ensures maximum effectiveness in preventing HIV infection.
